Greymason's Archery Contest
(EM Event - Pacific shard - 20061206)
Tonight the royal guard was summoned, running late as I usually due, I found the royal guard at the Skara Brae Community center. There was some sort of gate James Greymason was sending single gaurd members through.
Unsure what was going on I waited patiently to be summoned to the gate. I thought for sure I would arrive in a city plagued with Ophidians, Balrons, or some other ungodly creatures. Upon entering the gate I found myself on the roof of the archery training center on Serpent's Hold. There was a small table setup for what seemed to be archery supplies and a gated practice range.
Rather than fighting plagues of the land we found we were to have an archery contest. Each contestant was given a finely crafted yew bow, and was given three shots for the competition.

Report From uo.stratics.com

This report just arrived on my desk from Trash Collector about the archery contest recently held by Greymason:

James Greymason called a gathering last night as a thank you for everyone's work in both freeing Magincia (to which I still wish I'd helped) and also with the successful hunts resulting in the capture of many a rare creature.

After meeting in the usual Skara Brae locations: the Guards' Hall and the Community Centre, James Greymason gated each person individually to another "secret" location, stating only that we'd be handed a bow once we went through the gate.

Hearing tales of Greymason's infamous 'hunts' and knowing my inability with a bow, I thought today might not have been the best day to wear my white robe. I was one of the last to enter the gate and soon found myself on a roof in Serpent's Hold.

On the rooftop is an archery range and we were instructed that instead of a normal hunt, it was simply an archery contest. Each person was allowed 3 shots, with the top 8 scorers moving onto the "final" round. Some failed to score a single point, whilst others managed to score 200 points by hitting the bullseye (50 points), splitting their first arrow (100 points), then hitting the bullseye once again (another 50 points). I cautioned the crowd watching behind me as my inexperience with a bow could harm anyone and everyone in the vicinity. I admit I was even concerned about the poor fisherman out in the water to the East. Favour fortuned me however and I managed 30 points. A paltry sum, but at least I knew all 3 arrows were stuck in the target. Each participant was given a 'Finely Crafted Yew Bow' with which they took their shots.

The second round consisted of highly skilled archers. The rest of us drank andnd heckled. 8th place was decided and a White Stag statue was the reward. 7th place was decided and another White Stag statue appeared for that winner. 2nd through 6th place took a lot longer than expected as these skilled archers kept scoring the same. The heckling quickly turned on Greymason as he could only mutter under his breath as the contest continued. Eventually, the finalist were all in place and we had our winners.

The following statues were awarded:

White Stag Statues (2) - this was for 7th and 8th place
Scarecrow Target Dummy (1) - this was for 1st place, I believe. Some revellers were convinced it should have been named after Greymason himself.
Meer Mage Statue (1)
Yamadon Statue (1)
Golden Phoenix Statue (1)
Tsuki Wolf Statue (2)

Greymason asked the crowd if we noticed a theme with the statues handed out. They are all (save the target dummy) creatures hunted and captured on various past quests. James Greymason then invited everyone to Ilshenar to the official opening of the Zoo and Aquarium north of the Shrine of Sacrifice! These beautiful buildings can be found just north of the Meer village and are quite a sight to behold! I'll admit, I was nervous when walking close to the aquarium. As a professional fisherman, looking UP at a kraken is not a position I'd like to be in again!

Excellent report! Thank you for taking the time to write this and share it with the community. *smiles* I'll be packing my bags and heading up to view the new aquarium and zoo soon and will be posting more information on it as well. My hats off to Greymason for giving back to the community the ability to view these beautiful creatures once again.
